So let’s hop to it!
Why you should choose Glacier National Park for your Engagement Photos:
Endless stunning locations
Glacier National park is the perfect spot for any couples looking for mountain landscapes, wildflowers, glacial features, wildlife, and snuggly vibes! Glacier Park has varying areas of the park, and each area has some easily accessible locations that are outright stunning! You’ll find dramatic vistas with little to no work other than driving, parking, and hopping down a trail! Choosing Glacier National Park Engagement photos means choosing to have it all for your engagement session!
Year-round accessibility
Don’t let Montana winters scare you. Glacier National Park engagement photos are jaw-dropping year round! Summers and Fall will give you the option to go a bit higher in elevation for your Glacier National Park engagement photos while Spring and Winter leave you with the glorious lower elevation locations! There is no wrong time of year to plan your engagement photos in Glacier National Park as long as you have a bit of flexibility and are open to adventuring.
Epic adventuring opportunities
Glacier National Park engagement photos give you epic adventuring opportunities ranging from a leisurely walk, to a backpacking endeavor, with the chance to kayak and explore glaciers in between! No matter what gets your heart beating in the great outdoors, Glacier Park definitely has it. Some of the most popular Glacier National Park engagement photos locations are just a hop out of the car, but the best way to experience Glacier in your engagement photos is to add a little fun! We love when couples take an afternoon to hike up to their fave spot (or we’ll introduce you to some great options if you don’t have faves yet), carry in a picnic, adventure, and maybe even swim if you’re up for the chilly waters! Your Glacier National Park engagement photos deserve to feature an adventure you love doing with you boo! Your session is no longer a session–it becomes a sweet & memorable date you’ll be able to look back on forever that we help you create with our engagement photo packages.
The Best Locations for your Glacier National Park Engagement Photos:
Glacier National Park has 5 general regions that people usually refer to. These are Lake McDonald, Many Glacier, North Fork, St. Mary, and Two Medicine. The Going to the Sun Road (and Logan Pass) connects many of these, so it’s also a hoppin’ spot, and we’d recommend taking a drive on it no matter which location you choose for your Glacier National Park engagement photos!
Top 5 Glacier National Park Engagement Session Locations:
- Lake McDonald
- Logan Pass
- Hidden Lake
- Avalanche Lake
- Bowman Lake
These Glacier National Park engagement photos locations range from easy to medium difficulty to get to, but if you’re up for something a little more strenuous, hiking the Highline Trail up to Haystack Butte would be stellar! Before I get distracted, though, let’s check out some perks of each location and cover our engagement photo packages!
Lake McDonald:
Lake McDonald is at the West Glacier entrance and is easy to walk to after parking! You’ll have views of the infamous Lake McDonald (kind of what everyone thinks of when they think Glacier National Park), the opportunity for some gorgeous reflection photos, and BONUS: this location is accessible year round. It is very popular, however, so you’ll need to plan to get up early for your Glacier National Park engagement photos so you can beat the crowds and have the best lighting for you and your boo!
Logan Pass:
By Logan Pass, we mean all of the gorgeous locations on the Going to the Sun Road headed up to the pass! There are potentially 900 different locations (okay, maybe we’re exaggerating just a bit) on the side of this road alone! Some of the most insta-worthy Glacier National Park engagement photos locations are on this road near Logan Pass, and we’ll be stoked to share exactly which pullouts you should choose from! This is a great spot to plan to spend the afternoon picnicking and adventuring before your photos at sunset.
Hidden Lake:
The Hidden Lake Trail is a perfect trail for a couple who wants to get some hiking in! This trail comes in at 5.3 miles round trip, and is a fairly easy hike! You’ll end up at the infamous Hidden Lake Overlook, and there are so many gorgeous views you’ll have a hard time choosing which perspective of the lake you want featured in your Glacier National Park engagement photos! Not to mention, the trail itself is pretty awesome too! Depending on the season, you can see some gorgeous Fireweed (a native Montana wildflower) to capture in your photos too! This trail is heavily trafficked, so we’ll need to plan on the best time of the week to reduce crowds.
Avalanche Lake:
Choosing to hike up to Avalanche Lake for your Glacier National Park engagement photos gives you the access to two gorgeous trails! You’ll begin your session at Trail of the Cedars and end up at Avalanche Lake! Along the way, you’ll see trees older than you can imagine, Avalanche Creek, and boulder fields before you end up at the stunning mood of Avalanche Lake. We love this hike particularly in the early season so the creek is running beautifully and creates a dramatic effect for your Glacier National Park engagement photos!
Bowman Lake:
Bowman Lake is no doubt Glacier Park’s best kept secret! This lake has to be accessed via Camas Road (the second most picturesque road in the park) and will take you up to the North Fork and Polebridge area. This part of the park is quieter, making for a much better Glacier National Park engagement photos experience! Bowman Lake is fairly symmetrical, so you can get some amazing angles of your during your Glacier National Park engagement photos that will show off the gorgeous hues of the lake and surround mountains! Not to mention, you have to stop at the Polebridge Mercantile to get one of their famous huckleberry bear claws the size of your face!
Bonus Location: Anywhere you friggin want!
These locations are some of the best for Glacier National Park engagement photos, but what really matters is that you think the view is stellar and meaningful! If you have a location you’re dying to explore or, perhaps, you’ve already been there and have amazing memories there, let’s chat about how to include that in your Glacier National Park engagement photos!
Now, onto what to wear and our engagement photo packages!
What to wear to your Glacier National Park Engagement Photos:
Choosing what to wear to your Glacier National Park engagement photos depends a lot on your vibe and what you want to use these photos for!! There is no cookie-cutter guide on what to wear, because the outfits should reflect you and give the vibe you’re looking for!
Casual Glacier National Park Engagement Photos Outfit Inspo:
- Cute overalls and birkenstocks
- Your fave hiking outfits
- Chunky sweaters and skinny jeans
- A flirty dress and khakis with a button down for your boo!
Formal Glacier National Park Engagement Photos Outfit Inspo:
- Boho ankle-length dress and colored denims
- Formal wear
- Anything that makes you feel like a boss!
A word of advice we give to our couples is to always look in your closest first! Finding your Glacier National Park engagement photos outfits from your own wardrobe is more environmentally friendly and more cost-effective! It also ensures that you’re more likely to be comfortable in your outfits which is super important when you’re adventuring a bit for your photos!
A note on layers and color schemes:
No matter the season you’re choosing for your Glacier National Park engagement photos, you’ll need to plan on bringing layers! The weather is ever-changing, and it can rain or snow at any minute (yes, even in July lol), so come prepared with layers to peel off or put on depending on temperate or precipitation!
When choosing your color scheme for your Glacier National Park engagement photos, there are a few directions you can go: earthy, vibrant, or monochrome.
An earthy color scheme would be hues like mustard yellow, browns, deep greens, i.e. any color you can easily see when checking out the landscape. We LOVE this vibe for couples, but it’s important to choose colors that coordinate–not colors that match exactly. If you choose to wear the exact same colors, you will blend together in your photos, and you don’t want that! Instead choose complimentary earthy tones.
Another option is to choose vibrant colors! This is a great option for your Glacier National Park engagement photos in front of a singular background like at Logan Pass. Colors like yellow, red, orange, etc., really pop off the green and blue of the landscape!
Finally, choosing a monochrome palette is always truly baller!! This would mean choosing colors like cream, white, black, gray, etc., and fusing them together to make a minimalist and cohesive look for your clothes! We think this is so fun, and a great way to get creative when choosing your outfits!
We love helping couples choose the perfect outfits for their Glacier National Park engagement photos as a part of our packages! Let’s check those out too!
