Katie & TJ’s Just Us Adventure in Apgar, Montana
Yoyoooo and welcome to Katie and TJ’s just us adventure day in Apgar, Montana! Katie and TJ reached out to us, Kalispell Montana Photographers, in hopes of an amazing two day wedding experience. They knew from the beginning that they wanted a day celebrating their vows with guests among some of Montana’s most infamous views. However, they also knew they needed a day to enjoy the ruggedness of Montana with just the two of them so their pace could be a little slower, and they could breathe a little easier.
We help all of our couples find their wedding locations and their adventure locations, but when we were working with Katie and TJ on where to adventure we kept coming up with a problem… Katie wanted views like Glacier National Park, but their destination wedding was at a venue in Livingston, Montana about 5 hours away. It was then we just asked, “Shouldn’t we just drive up to Glacier so you can have exactly what you want?” And their just us adventure day was born!
Oh, and by the way–check out their Livingston Montana Wedding here to see just how unique their destination wedding day was.

Major Montana Treehouse Vibes
Katie and TJ aren’t cookie-cutter so they asked us where we thought would be a fun and unique spot for them to stay. We knew instantly this Montana treehouse would be perfect for them! We sent them over the Airbnb link praying it would be available for their date, and it was! Katie and TJ chose to wear their wedding gear from a couple days before to wear during their adventure session so they would get some banger pics while having a chillaxed blast. The two got ready together in their treehouse immersed in the smell of pine (thank you, live trees inside), ate some leftover chinese dumplings, and we were on the way!

Katie & TJ’s Just Us Adventure Hike
As we rolled out of the treehouse we noticed a gloom in the sky which meant…. GORGEOUS moody forest vibes. Katie and TJ wanted to do some hiking on their second day so we took them along the Going to the Sun Road to see some old growth forests and waterfalls. After hiking through the drizzle and mud, Katie and TJ were really starting to relax and really take in the experience together. Most of the time the two were found walking along the trails, talking to each other, and commenting on Glacier’s natural beauty. We even saw some wildlife in the way of deer, chipmunks, and squirrels! Thankfully no bears were out visiting that day. 🙂 After our forest and waterfall adventure we needed to get to the shores of Lake McDonald to do something really special–canoe! But more of that next!
Canoeing Against Lake McDonald’s Night Sky
Katie and TJ wanted to do something special for their finale, so we hooked them up with the contact info for a unique boating experience. This Montana made canoe is only brought into the park about 10 times per year for couples to use during their wedding experience. We met up with the owners and launched their canoe (with Katie and TJ inside it) against the cotton candy colored sky of Lake McDonald. Finally–the two were really, actually alone! Of course we were getting those bangers from the shore, but Katie and TJ got to just laugh and play in the canoe until the sun set.
But….. their adventure wasn’t over. Ya see, we’re not afraid of the dark, and you shouldn’t be either. We brought along some of our favorite lanterns so Katie and TJ could keep canoeing even after the sun went down. The two rowed off into the night lit only by lantern light against the deep blues of the water and sky.

But again–their night wasn’t over.
Katie and TJ were hungry and hoping to stargaze. We knew of a local spot with great star views against the water where they could have a campfire, roast some s’mores, and peer into Montana’s massive night sky. This location is outside of Glacier National Park so it was even quieter than you could imagine. We had our bear spray ready while we enjoyed the last moments of their just us adventure day. Once all of our sweet tooths were satisfied, we hugged Katie and TJ and sent them on their way back to the treehouse.
